Mac Subversion Client
Posted June 16th, 2008 by ElliottFinally, a friendly looking mac subversion client. Versions, http://www.versionsapp.com/ is a mac SVN client that looks very, well, mac like. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks friendly enough for designers and developers alike to use.
Flash CS3 Tip: Toggle Code Hint Language
Posted June 14th, 2008 by ElliottI worked on an AS2 File a month or so back and must have enabled some option to show AS2 code hints and it's been driving me banannas because I almost always write AS3 code now and keep getting AS2 hints.
Anyway, the setting isn't found in preferences, it's in the actionscript editor in the left hand sidebar in the dropdown menu. Select the language you're editing. D'oh!!
MAMP Does Not Work After Force Quit
Posted June 12th, 2008 by ElliottYesterday I lost power while I was running MAMP, and when it came back it could not connect. I've experienced this several times when I had to force quit the application and as a result have folders labeled notsooldmamp to access my old htdocs folders.
I just discovered a workaround however! If you launch MAMP, go to your preferences, uncheck the options to start/shutdown server on startup, things should be up and running again. This is apparantly a known issue that will be fixed in the next major release of MAMP.
Smoothie Animated CSS Menu (no javascript!)
Posted May 12th, 2008 by ElliottSo I occasionally visit the Surfin Safari blog, which is the Webkit developers blog (which is the nightly build version of the Apple Safari browser). The past few months, they have been making huge strides in pushing this browser forward. No doubt the iPhone which is powered by a flavor of Safari has been the motivation behind it.
Wide or Weird Fonts in OS X
Posted May 2nd, 2008 by ElliottI just ran into this issue: I installed some variations of the Helvetica font, and it screwed up other instances where the regular Helvetica was used on my system.
The fix: Go into font book and disable the recent fonts you installed by ctrl or right-clicking on them. Restart any apps where the fonts look wacky and you should be good to go.
Sync Omnifocus with .Mac
Posted May 2nd, 2008 by ElliottI use the wonderful application Omnifocus by the Omnigroup. I use it at work to keep track of projects and I use it at home to keep my other things together.
I've been longing for .Mac syncing, but I recently discovered in the general preferences, you can change the location of the database. Set it to a folder on your iDisk, and set your iDisk on both machines to sync automatically and there you go!
Flash Front
Posted April 29th, 2008 by ElliottI'm claiming the name!
I started working on a project nicknamed 'Flash Front' which, aims to be a general purpose Flash front end to Wordpress, Drupal, or any PHP application.
It's currently a set of php scripts that runs independantly of the CMS, and some actionscript that can tap those php scripts to grab information about the database via loadvars.
I'm currently exploring using other methods such as xml-rpc or amfphp, to see what the best and leanest solution might be. Any thoughts?
Time Machine: Flawless System Migration Tool
Posted April 10th, 2008 by ElliottUse Time Machine to move your data from one computer to another. You'll be happy you did.
Yesterday I had to move all my information from one machine to another to send the old one in for repair (you know, the classic G5 whining noise thing). In the past this has been a nightmare, in the last few years Apple at least provided a Migration Assistant Application, but it didn't do a complete job. I wanted to change computers entirely and have it be transparent.
Dear Digg, Please Fix the Podcasting Section
Posted March 29th, 2008 by ElliottDigg.com is probably my favorite website, I usually land there first before checking real news websites, and before any social networking sites. I love the news/images/videos sections now and how they're not as separate as before. But the Podcasting section was added several months ago and has remained rather useless in my opinion for discovering the weeks best content.
